2021 Recap and Year End Giving

Give joy, spread love, and inspire hope this holiday season by donating to the Philadelphia Suns. We are raising funds to support the many programs and services we offer to our youths.

The Philadelphia Suns seeks to build character in our members so that they would be positive influences in our team & community, as well as productive team players in their personal & professional lives. We are a volunteer based non-profit; all donations are tax-deductible and go towards the operational cost of our programs and scholarships. To donate, visit us here - https://www.phillysuns.org/donate.

Here are some of the highlights from this year.

Suns Scholarship

The Philadelphia Suns awarded 10K worth of scholarships to our future leaders who have financial needs and are taking active roles within our organization. Here are our scholarship winners this year (Jonathan Zou, Jayson Wang, Allen Lin, Brian Gan (not in picture), Sarah Rivera, and Alexis Lin).

Suns Youth Development Program

The Suns Youth Development Program (YDP) has been hosting monthly events to engage our youths with older members, foster mentorship, and develop life skills. We've been hosting an event each month (11 events so far), starting with virtual events earlier in the year (Escape Room, Workshops) and gradually transitioning to small in-person events later on (BBQ, Paint Night, Bowling, Paintball). Below is our successful Paint Night event earlier this year.

Community Service

We continue our tradition of hosting spring and fall clean-ups in our community. Members from across our programs come together and volunteer as a team to serve and beautify our community. For our spring clean-up, we had a team of 37 volunteers pruning and weeding at Franklin Square park. For our fall clean-up, we had a team of 51 volunteers help pick up trash and clean lots in the Chinatown area.

Volleyball

We were able to resume our volleyball program this year. We successfully hosted our 11th Annual Philly Mini Volleyball Tournament in August with 31 teams attending from local and afar. Lady Suns Volleyball had 3 teams with 50+ players combined and Suns Mens Volleyball had 2 teams with 30+ players combined.

Basketball

We recently started our basketball programs this fall. Programs include men, 18U, 15U, 13U, and girls basketball. We have had large turnouts for our 15U and 13U programs, with close to 40 kids combined each Saturday.

Lion Dance

Lion Dance continues with 22 performances since the start of the year. This number is much lower than previous years due to COVID restrictions. We performed at private and public events, and held virtual and in-person practices on the weekends. We teach lion dance, drums, cymbals, gongs, and the history and tradition of the dance.
